Visiting the Big Apple

As you might imagine, travelling to a country in which you can speak the language makes getting by with an Allergy that much easier, but this is certainly not a reason to become complacent.

It was quite a surprise to me the amount of wrappers with labels such as 'Manufactured in nut environment' or 'Not suitable for nut allergy sufferers' especially in convenience stores. Thankfully, the huge range of restaurants in New York serving all forms of cuisine came to my advantage as it was always relatively easy to get a meal.

I was however promptly reminded to always keep aware of what I consume, especially in a different country. This was made perfectly clear to me after popping into a Starbucks restaurant and picking up a fruit smoothie. As having a few sips I felt it tasted strange before realizing something was up and reading the label I was surprised to see that it was manufactured with the equipment that produces nut products. Thankfully this episode only amounted to a slight rash and after quickly taking my antihistamine tablets I was back to normal.
